Congenital malformations of the lower extremities are identified by codes Q74.1-Q74.9 in ICD-10.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i>Major diseases include:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">developmental malformations of the foot \u2013 its partial or complete absence;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">underdevelopment of the hip;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dysplasia of the hip joint;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">valgus and varus deformities;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">absence of the patella;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dislocations;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nonunion (also called \u201cfalse joint\u201d).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Causes<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Abnormalities in the development of limbs in children are laid down in the womb. The main reasons are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">genetic factor;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mutations;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">infections at 3-7 weeks of pregnancy;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">intake of some kinds of medications;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">occurrence of constrictions;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">alcohol, drug and tobacco abuse.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is not always possible to find out the exact cause, but effective treatment still exists.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Prevention<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Limb malformations are mostly congenital defects. As a preventive measure, it is necessary to lead a healthy lifestyle and to undergo ultrasound scans on a routine basis for the timely detection of pathology. Some situations can be corrected while the fetus is still in the womb. Nutrition should be balanced during pregnancy in order for the fetus to receive enough vitamins and minerals for development. Ecology and hygiene are also important.
