Description of the disease

Straight legs are the dream of every girl and the standard for men. Unfortunately, nature doesn’t give beauty to everyone; splay knees are a quite common defect. A lot of people live with this successfully, they don’t worry and don’t consider this a disadvantage. Self-confidence is a great quality. But the orthopedic surgeons claim that varus deformity (bow legs) can strike a blow to the health of the whole organism, not just one’s self-esteem.

The modern clinic of cosmetic orthopedics and traumatology Ladisten successfully copes with genu varum deformity having treated patients from 36 countries all over the world, and continues to help people.

Treatment of  Genu Varum (bow legs)

Bow leg correction is in most cases surgical. There are many different methods, but most often, treatment using Ilizarov device is chosen for the correction of bow legs. The main principle of this surgical procedure is that the bone is dissected in the place where the deformation is located, and after giving it the correct position, the bone is left to grow.

This method is quite good, but its main disadvantage is invasiveness. Ilizarov device leaves a lot of ugly scars, and its use can lead to infection. Doctors at Ladisten Medical Center use the patent of our chief surgeon, the Veklich device, in their practice. The device is low-traumatic, doesn’t leave large scars, the treatment with help of Veklich unit has a short rehabilitation period, and the operations are almost bloodless.

Why the treatment of varus deformity is compulsory?

It is important to identify and eliminate the pathology in time in order to avoid undesirable consequences:

  •         secondary platypodia
  •         faults in posture
  •         arthrosis
  •         osteochondrosis
  •         reduced function of legs

How to correct bow legs?

First, it’s worth making sure that the deformity is not false. False curvature can’t be considered a diagnosis. In such case, there is no disorder in the skeletal system. The whole problem is hidden in the muscles. If the curvature is false, it is necessary to train a specific muscle group, or to consider the option of performing cruroplasty.

If the diagnosis of bow legs is confirmed, one should resort to surgical treatment of pathology. Leg correction surgery is performed for both children and adults, and is more a cosmetic treatment.

What will you get in the final result of the treatment?

  •         Beautiful straight legs
  •         Avoid the beginning or progression of complications such as deforming arthrosis
  •         Boost your self esteem
  •         No postoperative scars would be left on the legs

Carrying out of surgical operation

The pathology of bow legs (varus deformity) is corrected in the clinic in 30-40 minutes for both legs. During the operation spinal anesthesia is used, so that the patient wakes up immediately after the operation is completed.

  • Step one. Making an appointment to get a consultation. This can be done by phone or by filling out an online form.
  • Step two. X-ray study and additional examinations. Diagnosis according to the results.
  • Step three. Surgical operation: small incisions are made in the leg and then the tibia is incised. The bone is put in the correct position which makes the legs straight. To fix this position, Veklich functional device is used.
  • Step four. The first days after surgery. This is the period when correction of the legs is taking place. During the next week the device is adjusted and the legs are straightened with an accuracy of 1 degree. At this time, the patient can move with the help of crutches or walkers.
  • Step five. Fixation and rehabilitation. Within 3 weeks after surgery, the patient walks on his own, with the device taking a stable position. Crutches are no longer needed.
  • Step six. After 2,5-3 months, the bones are completely grown together. Varus deformity (the pathology of bow legs) disappears.

The time needed to remove the Veklich device is 3 minutes. Three months after the operation, the patient can return to his or her former life and physical activity.

More details about rehabilitation.

The patient is in the clinic for 12 days, then goes through rehabilitation at home. In the future, after 3 months, another short visit to the clinic will be required to remove the devices.

The aesthetic effect remains for life. The size of traces left after wearing the Veklich device usually doesn’t exceed two millimeters, so it is difficult to see them with the naked eye. The absence of long-term rehabilitation and cosmetic defects is the main advantage of treatment according to Veklich method.
